How To Use Copywriting To Unlock Minds and Hearts

The skill of copywriting is in demand right now in the digital marketing world.

Engaging, compelling words are needed for everything, from scripts to blogs. Good copywriting creates interest; builds loyalty; and makes sales.

Copywriting is what we think of as persuasive or sales writing — best used for landing pages, sales letters and cold emails.

But truly, all writing, including blogs, emails and newsletters, can benefit from copywriting’s persuasive techniques.

Whether you’re trying to convince someone to purchase a product, or agree with your ideas, you can get further with the art of persuasion.

In copywriting we use these four keys of persuasion to unlock and open minds. Apply them to your writing (and your life) when you need to influence your audience.

1. Be Concise

If you want to grab and keep your readers’ attention, every word must be the best word for the job. Excess words distract. Always ask: how can I make my point stronger with less words?

2. Connect

Always let your audience know you understand them. There are many ways to do this, from using industry buzz words to telling a story they can relate to. Connecting with your audience opens the door to trust and receptivity.

3. Educate

Whether you’re writing to share knowledge or make a sale, you want your reader to be well informed. Provide the data (e.g., facts, features, testimonials) and the benefits (what they stand to gain) your audience needs to make a decision.

4. Have a Purpose

Know your reason for writing the piece. Is it to get an interview? To entertain? To get someone to write back, or buy something? Make your objective easy to understand and respond to. Let your audience know what you’d like them to do and make it easy for them to do it.

Use these keys of persuasion in your writing, your work and your life, when you need to open minds and hearts.
