When the world becomes a little smaller

As people grow older, the routines that once shaped their days can begin to fall away.

This decrease in social contact and cognitive interactions can affect mood, alertness and motivation.

Regular social connection and meaningful mental stimulation can help sustain participation in daily life and support the ability to remain independent.

Visits that support engagement and independence

During a companionship visit, I focus on helping your loved one stay mentally active, socially connected and involved in their day.

Each visit brings a natural rhythm of conversation, activity and light support that helps the day feel more structured, connected and easier to move through.

Some visits are centered around conversation and companionship. Others include simple activities or light practical support.

I pay close attention to energy, mood and interest, adjusting the flow of the visit so it feels comfortable, engaging and appropriate for the moment.

Visits are guided by:

Meaningful social connection
• Conversation and shared time
• Talking through memories, stories or everyday life

Mental & physical engagement
• Activities that keep the mind active and the body gently moving
• Reading aloud, simple games or puzzles
• Light movement such as chair yoga or balance exercises
• Practicing everyday tech (phone, email, etc.)

Light everyday assistance
• Simple meal preparation
• Gentle tidying or organizing, some errands, mail sorting

Living in Florida while my mother was in California was very stressful for me.
I worried about her feeling isolated and whether she was truly okay day to day.
Knowing Susana was visiting her brought me tremendous peace of mind.
My mother was relaxed and genuinely enjoyed their time together, and I could feel the difference in her mood.
It meant so much to know she had caring, thoughtful companionship when I couldn’t be there.

About Susana

I understand from both personal and professional experience the importance of staying mentally and socially engaged as we grow older.

Through my interactive music programs in assisted living settings, I’ve seen how singing familiar songs can spark memories, reflection and connection with others.

My work in peer counseling with seniors further deepened my appreciation for the value of attentive listening and meaningful human connection.

As a senior companion, I bring a calm, attentive presence and encourage interactions that help sustain cognitive and social independence.

Caring for my mother as her dementia progressed was emotionally and physically exhausting. Having Susana spend time with her gave me the relief I desperately needed.
She connected with my mother in such a natural and gentle way — they would even sit at the piano together and play. Seeing my mother engaged and content brought me real comfort.
Susana’s presence made a difficult time feel more manageable.
